Minimum Requirements:

  • Non-renewable 6-month contract
  • Grade 10 or equivalent results/certificate/ degree/diploma
  • South African Citizen / South Africa ID Document
  • Proof of Residential Address- only City of Ekurhuleni residents will be considered
  • Preference to previously disadvantage communities including adult female, youth male, youth female and persons with disabilities
  • Knowledge about and interest in the creative industries including: - creative arts, multimedia, performing arts, heritage or visual arts will be an added advantage.
  • Be willing to work extended / flexi hours and on Saturdays or public holidays.
  • Must have an average command in English both verbally and in writing
  • Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must show willingness to learn and take instructions from supervisors

Core Responsibilities:

Performing Arts:

  • Have basic knowledge of and interest in art disciplines such as dance, music, poetry, drama etc.
  • Aid in the development, coordination, and execution of performances, productions, council functions and related activities.
  • Collaborate with artists, directors, and coordinators to ensure high-quality delivery of workshops, and events.

Technical:

  • Assist with facilitating multiple technical tasks such as lighting, sound, technical administration, and stage management within the department, from pre to-post phases of a production/programme/function.

Fieldworker:

  • Act as a liaison with community arts and culture groups to foster awareness of functions/productions, and overall cultural and heritage engagements.
  • Assist in hygiene maintenance of all Arts Culture and Heritage facilities during normal working days and during functions/programs to ensure that surroundings are clean, and litter is managed at all times.

Visual Arts:

  • Help coordinate the verification, updating, administration, conservation, and documentation of all art collection within the City.
  • Assist with the curation, management, and promotion of visual art exhibitions and installations.

Heritage:

  • Support heritage projects, outreach programs and educational initiatives to preserve and promote cultural history and restorations.
  • Assist with conducting various research on cultural and historical subjects to support heritage projects and maintain accurate records.

Creative Industries/Fashion:

  • Assist with coordination of events/programmes, including fashion shows, exhibitions, film-screenings, field markets, and other creative industry events.
  • Knowledge about and interest in the creative industries – including creative arts, multimedia, and performing arts will be an added advantage.
  • Act as a liaison with arts and culture groups for the mapping of creative industries and creative arts in the City.
