Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines: Urban and Regional Planning; Geography / GIS; Economics, Data Science; Statistics; Computer Science; Development Planning; Science; Research Methodology or relevant equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in research, analysis, or strategic planning roles, preferably in a Municipality or Urban Planning context
  • Strong understanding of urban issues, policy analysis and data interpretation
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software and tools (e.g. GIS or Excel)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in an understandable manner
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analytical initiatives to provide evidence-based insights that inform policy development, organisational performance and executive decision-making
  • Contribute to the development of a data-driven planning and intelligence capability through the integration of research, analytics and business intelligence practices
  • Collect, analyse and interpret socio-economic, demographic, spatial and service delivery data to generate strategic insights
  • Leverage GIS and spatial intelligence tools to identify trends, development patterns and service delivery challenges across the City
  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards and intelligence products that support evidence-based planning and performance monitoring
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen the City's research, intelligence and data-driven planning capabilities
  • Provide feedback on governance, risk and compliance practices & escalate unresolved issues via appropriate channels for investigation and resolution
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly and annual budgets and financial reports in accordance with statutory and Council presentation requirements
  • Enable a culture, which builds rewarding relationships, facilitate service feedback, and allows others to provide exceptional customer service
