Job Purpose:

To plan, organise, lead and control engineering requirements and initiatives for the department and manage all associated resources requirements in area of accountability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, (BEng; BSc Eng NQF Level 7)
  • Registration with ECSA, as a Professional Engineer
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • MFMA certification or revelant MFMA knowledge will be added as an advantage.
  • At least 6 years’ relevant experience in water and sanitation design environment and project management, with 2 years in a managerial role.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop operational targets in support of tactical delivery and organisational strategic objectives in partnership with divisional leadership.
  • Managing and approving technical water and sewer designs prepared internally and by consultants.
  • Ensure that the right engineering standards and specifications are applied.
  • Communicate a meaningful strategic context that guides and directs best practice, integration, process alignment and service delivery.
  • Implement, plan and drive an overall engineering operational strategy and plan.
  • Develop annual operating plan to meet established annual objectives and organise and prioritise tasks and work processes needed to achieve the plan.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly reports as per developed set standards and requirements, legislation and regulations.
  • Assist with the implementation of engineering activities for the department.
  • Advise on engineering plans and projects for the area of accountability.
  • Scan external environment to identify and take advantage of new knowledge of related acts, regulations and regulatory frameworks to improve results.
  • Prepare, devise and give comments on any engineering activities for the department.
  • Implement risk management, governance and compliance policy and processes to identify and manage governance and risk expose liability.
  • Provide overall direction in terms of overall engineering management and implementation
